Session outline/ plan:
Your proposal is planned.
You’ve got your letters of support.
You dust off your CV … and you realise the funder is asking for a Narrative CV.
What even is a Narrative CV?
Narrative CVs are increasingly being requested by funders in place of traditional list-based CVs. They’re designed to be more inclusive and align with wider shifts around positive research culture and responsible assessment of research.
They also take longer to write and come with challenges — like which contributions to include and how to tailor them to your proposal.
This interactive workshop will introduce Narrative CVs, explain which funders are using them and why, and go through some practical exercises to help you develop your own.
You don’t have to have a funding application on the go — the earlier you start thinking about your Narrative CV, the easier it will be to write it when the time comes.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Understand the difference between traditional list-based CVs and Narrative CVs
Understand why and how some funders are switching to Narrative CVs
Recognise some of the key challenges for writing a narrative CV
Know how to approach writing a Narrative CV
Understand how to tailor your Narrative CV
Know where to find assistance when writing a narrative CV
Pre-work
Please bring to the session the latest copy of your traditional academic CV – it can be printed, or accessible to you on your personal laptop or smartphone if you bring these to the session. You will not be asked to share your CV with anyone, it will just be a reference point for your own use for some of the activities.
On the day we will provide pens and paper, but you are welcome to bring a laptop if you prefer to work that way.
